Mietta's Review
Under new ownership much in this restaurant, once the ACT's prime fine diner, has changed. These days it's a smart modern Cafe with in spite of the new owner being French, modern Australian food at modern Canberran prices (mains firmly sub-$30s). The room in this underground dug-out (the restaurant roof is a grass covered hill) is still comfortable with the same lovely views of the of city lights reflected on the glass smooth surface of Lake Burley Griffin. In keeping with the move down-market, the tablecloths have gone but the comfortable white leather chairs remain and much is made of the outdoor dining area.

Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Guide 2010 Score: 15/20, One Hat "After a few years in the doldrums, one of the capital's premier destinations is back to its best thanks to James Mussillon's ambition. While this grass-topped, glassencased lakeside wedge is a serious fine diner, sitting on the rhumb line stretching from Parliament House to the War Memorial, the menu's 14 dishes match sharp technique with whimsical humour"

Gourmet Traveller 2010 Australian Restaurant Guide "Aristocratic swans glide by, joggers dash past and couples amble. The newest fine-dining establishment from James Mussillon is a cleanlined white-and-glass design with a panoramic view of Lake Burley Griffin and its surrounds"

Sydney Morning Herald Simon Thomsen, 31-3-2009 Score: 15/20 "One of the capital's premier dining rooms with a view returns to the fore(shore) under a stalwart Canberra chef."

Canberra Times Bryan Martin, 20-05-09 Score: 16/20 "Everything you need in a great restaurant; excellent and complex food, a peaceful, elegant setting and one of the best views in Canberra"

Canberra Times Karen Downing, 29-11-06 "With an emphasis on seafood, Waters Edge s elegant, comfortable, hospitable and affordable. IT IS TESTAMENT to a restaurant's experience and expertise when . everyone at the table would like to try almost everything from the menu especially when the group covers three generations of family. That we can contemplate the interesting menu at Waters Edge in contemporary comfort with glorious views across Lake Burley Griffin, is the sheer good fortune of being Canberran."

Or perhaps ...

Bookplate Cafe 6262 1154, National Library Of Australia, Parkes Pl, Parkes - Gorgeous stained glass windows by artist Leonard French are an overwhelming attraction here

Cafe in the House (02) 6270 8156, Old Parliament House, King George Tce, Parkes - The art-deco elegance of the architecture and interiors of Old Parliament House are worth a visit. The cafe and bar are what was the non members canteen

High Court Cafe (02) 6273 2836, High Court Of Australia, Parkes Pl, Parkes

The Lobby (02) 6273 1563, King George Tce, Parkes - This very plush restaurant has been on the Canberra scene since 1968 - it is part of history.

Mega Bites Cafe (02) 6270 2913, Questacon Science & Technology Centre, King Edward Tce, Parkes - The food is fair and the scene vibrant, matching the techno-architecture as much as the Parliamentary Zone permits.

Sculpture Gardens Restaurant (02) 6240 6660, National Gallery Of Australia, Parkes Pl, Parkes - Beautiful situation in the Sculpture Garden of the National Gallery.
